In 2019, Adobe launched the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI) to address visual misinformation and protect creators through digital provenance. CAI has been creating mechanisms for digital content provenance via open-source development, cross-industry collaboration, and interoperability of tools.
Yesterday, October 26, 2021, the company introduced the next step in this journey - Content Credentials, which is Adobe’s new feature to provide and assess digital content provenance and attribution.
Currently, as a beta experience Content Credentials feature is available to all Creative Cloud subscribers across key Adobe products and workflows.

This new feature on Adobe Photoshop will allow artists to manifest that they are the original creators of artwork on NFT marketplaces. The company has partnered with the NFT marketplaces including KnownOrigin, SuperRare, OpenSea, and Rarible to display Content Credentials, to enable collectors to see if the wallet that was used to create an asset was indeed the same one used to mint.
Adobe said that the Content Credentials feature captures edits and identity information from a working image. The creator can attach the identity information to the image when exporting it. The secure metadata provides new transparency options for artists while also reinforcing trust in digital content for viewers. The company has launched a website where you can inspect the details of an image and its Content Credentials - verify.contentauthenticity.org.
Adobe said that users can link their social media profiles and crypto wallet addresses to their work in the Photoshop desktop app. By adding their social media and wallet addresses to their Content Credentials artists can further assure consumers that they are indeed the creator of the content. Crypto address is useful when someone wishes to mint their work as crypto art.
The company is also set to launch "prepare as NFT" to save as options soon, in preview. This will enable the creators to cryptographically sign the content they create in an open-source way.
Adobe is rolling out "Content Credentials", and "prepare as NFT" features in response to demand from both creators and viewers for identifying the original creator of the content displayed with an NFT, as it’s very easy to copy any image and then mint it on the blockchain.
